PenPLAY is a LIVE interactive on-line workshop for photo enthusiasts, scrapbookers and artists looking for a more intuitive and enjoyable approach to the craft of creating DigitalART.
Over the course of 2 weeks you are going to learn everything you need to know about the pen and tablet:
- Discover what a pen and tablet is, why it’s better than your mouse and how to choose one – Bigger is not always better.
- Learn how to set up your tablet and harness the power of it’s pressure sensitive features using Photoshop brushes.
- Gather tips and tricks for both holding, utilizing and managing your pen.
- Navigate the unfamiliarity and master the provided exercises for getting accustomed to this new novelty.
- Explore a variety of techniques which provide an improved experience through the use of a pen, to include drawing, writing, coloring, retouching, masking, extracting, dodging and burning.

The LIVE advantage. The concepts and techniques delivered in each of the 2 PenPLAY sessions follow a step-by-step approach over the course of 2 weeks to provide ample time between classes for practice and assimilation of material. Software Requirements: This course is taught in in Photoshop CC, and demonstration will be provided in Photoshop Elements 14, to demonstrate any differing approaches and techniques.

PenPLAY 101 LIVE: You will receive an introduction to the pen/tablet, how it works and why you need one, as well as suggestions on how to select a model that is right for you. I will guide you through the process of setting up your pen and tablet, from taking it out of the box, walking you through the set-up process, as well as trouble-shooting and maintenance. Get ready to learn how to personalize your pen/tablet and be amazed at how you can leverage the pressure sensitivity features with brushes in Adobe Photoshop and Elements, to adjust Size, Scatter, Opacity, Roundness and Hue Jitter properties. Finally, you will observe 4 different exercises for you to practice before our next class together, designed to familiarize and get you comfortable with the use of the pen/tablet.
PenPLAY 102 LIVE: Your tablet is set-up and you are acquainted with how to use it. In the second session of this course, you will become privy to the different ways in which you can use this new device to up both the enjoyment quota and speed of creating your DigitalART by observing a variety of digital technique demonstrations. Discover how to create your own brushes and tool presets using pressure sensitivity. Learn 4 different techniques for coloring, including 2 different selective coloring techniques. Master the art of retouching photos and elements using the Dodge/Burn tools and understand how to use the pen/tablet to make light work of an extraction in Quick Mask Mode.
